Devendra Banhart va néixer a la ciutat texana de Houston, va passar la seva infància a Veneçuela i finalment es va instal·lar a l’urbs Californiana de San Francisco, on va estudiar arts visuals. La seva música, catalogada en l’apartat de freak o weird pop, està caracteritzada per l’emoció, el sentit místic o certa màgia, arribant a la seca culminació amb l’obra “Cripple crow”.
