El grup de rock urbà Asfalto, sotmès al llarg del temps a bastants canvis de personal, va iniciar la seva trajectòria a inicis dels 70 i a finals d’aquesta dècada va gravar l’àlbum “Al otro lado” en uns estudis de Londres, ciutat en què va actuar al mític local Marquee. La formació es va mantenir en una etapa de regularitat durant els 80, però a partir dels 90 va iniciar una lenta decadència, malgrat que la banda es manté encara en actiu.

HEAVEN

Àlbum d’estudi: Fear of music.
El millor: una gran cançó d’un grup força valorat.
El pitjor: no és una de les seves peces més populars.

El quartet Talking Heads va ser una de les bandes clau del punk rock i la new wave de Nova York, la part més intel·lectualitzada dels moviments i un dels grups bàsics en el cèlebre local CBGB. “Heaven”, una de les cançons més belles, encara que no és considerada de les més conegudes, de la formació liderada pel cantant i guitarrista David Byrne, va ser un dels temes cabdals de “Fear of music”, el tercer i aclamat àlbum de Talking Heads. La peça, d’estil lent i reposat, una mica allunyat del nervi frenètic que imposa en altres cançons Byrne, va ser escrita per aquest i el guitarrista i teclista Jerry Harrison, mentre ha estat versionada per diversos intèrprets com Eric Burdon o KD Lang.

UNA SEMANA EN EL MOTOR DE UN AUTOBÚS

Grup: Los Planetas.
Any: 1998.
Formació: J, Florent, Kieran Stephen i Eric Jiménez.
Àlbum d’estudi precedent: Pop (1996).
Àlbum d’estudi posterior: Unidad de desplazamiento (2000).
El millor: disc de culte del pop espanyol.
El pitjor: els problemes durant la gravació.

“Una semana en el motor de un autobús” va ser el tercer àlbum del quartet andalús Los Planetas, grup fundat a Granada i autèntic fenomen de l’indie rock espanyol. La banda encapçalada per J i Florent, a diferència d’altres formacions alternatives de l’estat espanyol, com Australian Blonde, Sexy Sadie o els més comercials i populars Dover, va decidir expressar-se en castellà i no en llengua anglesa, mentre que el treball analitzat està considerat l’obra culminant del grup granadí, una autèntica institució en el cèlebre festival indie de Benicàssim. L’àlbum va originar un llibre del periodista Nando Cruz, el qual va explicar les enormes dificultats per les quals van passar els components de la formació en el moment de gravar el disc, en el qual hi destaquen temes com “Segundo premio”, “La playa” o “Copa de Europa”.

TRUE (CANÇÓ)

Grup: Spandau Ballet.
Any: 1983.
Formació: Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp, Tony Hadley, John Keeble i Steve Norman.
Gènere: soul.
Àlbum d’estudi: True.
El millor: un dels clàssics dels 80.
El pitjor: sofisticació pura.

El quintet Spandau Ballet havia estat una de les formacions capdavanteres del moviment dels nous romàntics, en el marc de la new wave, però el grup anglès va decidir donar un pas endavant i situar-se en un tipus de pop, amb algunes gotes de soul, caracteritzat per l’elegància, la sofisticació i la màxima pulcritud. Va ser llavors quan el conjunt britànic va editar l’àlbum “True”, encapçalat pel tema del mateix títol, que va suposar un enorme èxit al Regne Unit, els Estats Units i molts països més, entre els quals es trobava Espanya. La cançó, que va romandre quatre setmanes en el punt més alt de les llistes britàniques, va ser composta pel guitarrista Gary Kemp en un estil proper a la factoria Motown.
